We frequently get people who apply to adopt a dog and do not meet the requirements. The number one requirement that people do not meet is having their pets up to date on a rabies and or the DHPP (distemper parvo) vaccines. One of the first things we do when we receive an application is do the Vet check and ask if your pet(s) are up to date with their medical care.
The reason why we care if pets are kept up to date on vaccines and heartworm/flea/tick medication is because of the risks if animals are not vaccinated. We have seen dogs that have died from heartworm, and it is a very painful death. Parvo and Rabies are also horrible conditions that we never want to subject a dog to.
There are exceptions to having your dogs vaccinated and on prevention meds, and that is for medical cases. If your dog has a medical reason why they cannot be vaccinated or on prevention meds, please let us know that. We will verify with your Vet that this is a documented medical reason.
Thank you,
WRG
